Mark Whitney is a Technical Director for ABS Consulting's Explosion Hazards Technology Center. Mr. Whitney's career has focused on the prediction of explosion effects and the design of protective structures. He has evaluated and deigned facilities for compliance with explosion safety siting standards. Applications have included industrial and government situations where hazardous chemicals, energetic materials, or explosives are handled. He has performed explosion accident investigations, including field surveys of blast-damaged buildings and blast simulations to support the root cause investigation. Mr. Whitney has designed hardened control buildings and various other civil structures at chemical plants and government installations. He has performed as manager of explosion test programs to assess the performance of hardened construction under blast and fragment loading environments.

Mike Roberts is a Senior Engineer and the Manager of Consequence Analysis Services for ABS Consulting. He has 16 years of experience in hazard analysis and risk assessments of chemical, petrochemical, pharmaceutical, oil and gas, pulp and paper, and nuclear facilities.
His experience includes performing qualitative and quantitative hazard analyses using a variety of techniques (failure modes and effects analysis, hazard and operability analysis, and fault tree and event tree analyses); performing consequence assessments (source term, dispersion, and fire/explosion modeling); and developing process safety and risk management programs for nuclear, chemical, petrochemical, oil and gas processing, and pulp and paper facilities.
Mr. Roberts also has extensive experience in developing hazard analysis documentation and documented safety analyses (safety analysis reports, preliminary safety analysis reports, and basis for interim operation documents) for U.S. Department of Energy facilities.
Mr. Roberts is a coauthor of Compliance Guideline for EPA's Risk Management Program Rule (published by the American Chemistry Council and the American Petroleum Institute [API]), Risk Management Program Guidance for Petroleum Refineries (API), and Risk Management Program Guidance for Exploration and Production Facilities (API).
Mr. Roberts participated in the Kanawha Valley hazard assessment project, overseeing the technical review of the consequence analysis results and providing technical guidance to assist 14 chemical facilities in preparing hazard assessments for public disclosure. He has also provided risk management program (RMP) advice to the East Harris County Manufacturers Association RMP Group in Houston, Texas (approximately 100 member companies), the Texas City RMP Group in Texas City, Texas (7 member companies), and the Jefferson County RMP Group in Louisville, Kentucky (approximately 40 member companies).

Steve Arendt is the Vice President of ABS Consulting's Operational Performance Assurance group. He is involved with risk management and communication, process safety and site security, and counterterrorism activities associated with the chemical and allied industries.
Mr. Arendt has more than 25 years of experience in process safety, risk management, and security. Recently, he helped develop industry guidelines for performing security vulnerability analyses.
Mr. Arendt has published many articles and authored several major process safety publications, including RMP Compliance Guide: A Manager's Guide to QRA; Resource Guide for the Process Safety Code of Management Practices; Guidelines for Hazard Evaluation Procedures, Second Edition with Worked Examples; and Guidelines for Risk-based Process Safety Management. He is a coinstructor for security courses and has led numerous industry-sponsored security workshops.
Troy Brady
ABS Consulting
Troy Brady is a Senior Procedures and Training Consultant with ABS Consulting. He has 27 years of experience in process safety, operations, maintenance, documentation development, training, and project management. His industrial experience includes chemical processing; refining; pulp and paper; general manufacturing; and fossil, hydro, and nuclear power generation.
During the last 10 years, Mr. Brady has developed and implemented management and documentation systems to support compliance with various OSHA regulations, including the process safety management regulation (29 CFR 1910.119), and with the International Standards Organization quality series.
He has conducted more than 50 job and task analyses and training needs analyses. He has served as an instructor for more than 50 workshops, teaching job and task analysis, effective procedure development, training material development, classroom presentation skills, and conducting effective on-the-job training.

Tom Williams is a senior risk/reliability engineer, project manager, course developer, and instructor with ABS Consulting. For the past 17 years, he has specialized in leading, managing, and documenting process hazard analyses (PHAs) for the chemical, petrochemical, refining, ammonia, and pharmaceutical industries. Mr. Williams has also helped numerous clients comply with regulatory requirements related to process safety management (PSM) and risk management programs (RMPs). He is an expert in the development of operating and maintenance procedures to address safety/reliability risks, has coauthored several articles on this subject, and co-developed ABS Consulting's related courses in effective procedure writing. He also served as project manager for the development of ABS Consulting's world-class HazardReview LEADER software and continues to head up the LEADER technical support, maintenance, and training services.

Bill Bradshaw is a Senior Risk/Reliability Engineer with ABS Consulting. He has more than 20 years of experience in the chemical and nuclear industries and has helped several clients develop or reengineer their process safety management (PSM) programs, including the management of change element.
Mr. Bradshaw is currently leading the effort to write a book entitled Risk-based Process Safety for the American Institute of Chemical Engineers' Center for Chemical Process Safety (CCPS). This book is intended to chart the future direction of PSM for CCPS member companies over the next 10 or more years.
Mr. Bradshaw helps clients understand and manage risk by (1) leading process hazard analyses, (2) developing mechanical integrity programs, (3) facilitating other issue-specific qualitative risk analyses, and (4) leading compliance audits. In addition, he helps clients develop or reengineer the management systems that support their PSM programs.
Mr. Bradshaw previously served in a variety of plant and business positions with ICI, including plant maintenance manager, production superintendent, operations manager, and business engineering and technology manager. He has extensive experience with processes involving highly hazardous chemicals, including nerve agents and a variety of nonlethal chemical weapons and explosives, UF6, and highly flammable liquids.
Mr. Bradshaw is a registered Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the state of Tennessee. |
